Pink Parcel – February Box

There are tonnes of¬†subscription¬†boxes available these days and it can quite overwhelming trying to decide which one to sign up for. I can firmly say that I am rubbish at doing make-up so the majority of beauty boxes didn’t appeal to me but I knew I wanted a monthly treat! Upon further research, I discovered Pink Parcel.

IMG_6764

For practically every woman, we tend to dread that time of the month but Pink Parcel have decided to change that and make it a positive by sending you your preferred sanitary essentials and a few extra surprises to make you smile! These can be anything from health products to beauty products.

Pink Parcel offer 3 dispatch dates for you to choose from, based on your time of the month so you can be sure to receive your box before your period is due. This box literally removes any monthly cycle worries you may have as you are able to choose your preferred brand of sanitary products so your box is specific to you. It is only £12.95 per month (postage is free) and you get your first box for £9.95!

IMG_6766

Upon opening my box, I was excited because there were more boxes inside! It made me feel like a child at Christmas with lots of presents, I couldn’t wait to see what was inside each box.

The first thing I noticed was a a full sized product! It was SASS Intimate Soothe & Smooth Shave Gel (RRP £10) which had a great quote on the box might I add!

This is a crystal clear shaving gel for your pubic area. It’s formula was designed to reduce ingrown hairs and protect you from razor bumps and irritation. This is beyond a decent sized goody to get from Pink Parcel. I haven’t tried it yet but I will definitely post a review about it once I do.

The next thing I opened was a little drawstring bag which said “for now” on it.

IMG_6773¬†Inside were sanitary towels and tampons. This is such a cute little bag as I can pop¬†it into my handbag for when I am on the go. If you’re like me, I tend to forget that I am on my period for the first day and end up having to buy extra tampons whilst out.

Following on with the theme, I opened up a thin box which said “for later” on it.

This box was literally FILLED with tampons! It was definitely all I needed to get through this month’s cycle without having to purchase more tampons. Besides my essentials, there was a pack of Tampon Disposal Bags by Fab Little Bag (RRP ¬£1.99). These are great for putting into your bag as well especially with the cute design on the packaging. They are also big enough to use for panty liners which is a bonus!

By the time I got to the last box, I had begun to feel a lot like Alice in Wonderland! This box said “for you” on it.

This box had goodies galore! In total, there were 8 items to cater to your beauty or lifestyle needs.

  1.  A travel sized bottle (75ml) of Aussie Miracle Moist Conditioner which made me really happy as it is my favourite conditioner.  This conditioner promises to revitalise dry and damaged hair by locking in moisture and protecting your hair from the elements. I can confirm that Aussie definitely fulfills its promises!
  2. A beyond cute mini photo frame by Sass & Belle in my favourite colour, red. This frame is perfect to have on my desk at work  with a picture of my smiling daughter.
  3. Speaking of my daughter, she absolutely loved the Pink Parcel lavender scented eye mask, and so did I. It smells lovely and immediately made me feel relaxed when I went to bed that night. I don’t think I’ve fallen asleep so easily and¬†quickly before!
  4. A sample sachet of Merumaya Melting Cleansing balm and Youth Serum which is like TLC in a little packet. They both feel so lavish when you put them on your skin. They left my face feeling smooth and extremely soft.
  5. A travel sized rollerball sample of¬†Sweet Lullaby Soothing Body & Massage Oil by Lola’s Apothecary.¬†This oil is 100% natural and can be used for multiple purposes such as a¬†cleanser, moisturiser, stretch mark treatment and massage oil. It smells heavenly! It is a comforting scent made of Lavender, Ylang Ylang, Sweet Orange, Patchouli and Vanilla.
  6. Tasty Rainbows & Whirlwinds Energising Tea by Lola’s Apothecary.¬†This tea is a herbal blend of Green Yerba Mate, Ginseng, Gingko, Nettle, Spearmint and Lemongrass. When I read that the tea was a “a refreshing minty citrus flavour”, I was a bit apprehensive to try it. I am glad I did eventually make a brew because it is delicious! The flavour is strong (in a good way) and the ingredients compliment each other.
  7. A piece of delicious Double Trouble Chocolate Fudge from Fudge Kitchen.  I only managed to get a small bite of this before my daughter wolfed it down! From the little bit I did have, I was in chocolate heaven.

IMG_6779

Overall, for my first box from Pink Parcel I was thoroughly impressed! My favourite gift in the box was the body oil by Lola’s Apothecary.¬†The concept of the box is great and actually works really well. It is also great value for money, I don’t think I have come across a subscription box which offers so many products for such a good price.

As I said before, I am not into make-up as much as other women so the typical beauty box doesn’t appeal to me. Pink Parcel have created a box that is bound to appeal to every woman. There are beauty items, lifestyle items and even food…what more could you possibly want?

For once, I actually can’t wait for my next period to come…weird, I know! If you want to know more about Pink Parcel, check out their website: http://www.pinkparcel.co.uk

VonShef 1.8 Litre Rice Cooker

I had somehow managed to dent my rice cooker bowl over Christmas which at first I didn’t think it would cause a problem but it now makes my rice either really hard or really soggy. So dinner has been really hit and miss lately, much to my family’s despair. ¬†I have been looking for a more robust rice cooker and I decided on giving the VonShef rice cooker a try. The unique shape and the 2 year warranty really sold it to me!

The rice cooker arrived really quickly in a box in a box so it was definitely packaged well! The rice cooker came with a plastic serving spoon, a steam tray which you can insert into the rice cooker, a small measuring cup and a detailed instruction leaflet.

IMG_6998
This rice cooker, as you will see from the pictures, is not your usual rice cooker. The typical rice cooker just looks like a pot with a removable lid whereas this one has a new and improved sleek design. It is quite compact with a press to lift lid.

You are able to cook up to 8 cups of rice which serves roughly 4 people, which is perfect for the average family. Using a rice cooker is pretty simple. If you wanted to make 2 cups of rice, you simply fill the measuring cup twice and empty the measured rice into a bowl. Wash the rice with cold water and keeping rinsing it until the water is practically clear. Pour the clean rice into the rice cooker and fill the rice cooker with water up to the indicated line. Switch the rice cooker to “cook” and leave it to work it’s magic.
IMG_6996
The rice cooks perfectly and I truly believe this is because of the design of the lid. As the lid doesn’t come off at all, the rice cooker is perfectly insulated so the rice is able to cook completely. Additionally, when you leave the rice cooker on the warm function, the rice remains fresh. It doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pot get dried out. With previous rice cookers, I have had to continuously mix my rice whilst it is on warm to ensure that it doesn’t get dry and stuck to the bottom of the pot.

An added bonus of this rice cooker is that it can be used as a steamer. Thanks to the steam tray, you can easily steam cook your veg so it is a two in one. It also mentions that you can cook soup in it. I haven’t tried this yet but I am looking forward to giving it a go. In terms of cleaning, as the pot is non-stick, it is super easy to clean.

It is a bit expensive at £69.99 compared to other rice cookers but I think it is definitely worth every penny. Considering it does more than cook rice perfectly, it is essentially two kitchen appliances in one!

Overall, I really like this rice cooker. It looks great on my kitchen counter, cooks rice perfectly and is so easy to clean. I have faith it will continue to impress me and the 2 year warranty is definitely a plus!

Oil Pulling with Minty Coco

I have heard so many great things about oil pulling but the idea of swishing oil in my mouth never appealed to me. That is, until I noticed my friend’s extremely white teeth and asked what toothpaste she had been using. She happily told me that she had started oil pulling so I immediately looked into it. To be honest, when it comes to cheap beauty trends, I am always happy to give it a go at least once.

Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic dental technique that requires you to swish a tablespoon of oil in your mouth for around 15 – 20 minutes. This is meant to remove the toxins in your body, primarily to improve oral health but also to improve your overall health. The reported benefits of oil pulling are whiter teeth, prevention of cavities, stronger teeth, healthier gums, fresh breath and surprisingly, improvement in skin problems and headaches.

After researching, I was pretty much sold, so I was happy to find this Minty Coco kit.

IMG_6837
Minty Coco

It arrived in a really nice and professional looking box with 14 sachets of oil (enough for 2 weeks use) and an information booklet. The booklet was really useful as it explained the ingredients, how to use the product and it had some FAQs.

IMG_6839

The sachets are really great as they can be easily taken with you anywhere due to their size. They fit perfectly in your hand so if you need to warm up the oil, it is really easy to do so and the rip off feature was really simple. One thing to note, if you haven’t warmed the oil enough in your hands, it can be a bit difficult to fit the oil through the small hole.¬†Coconut oil is a solid at room temperature but a little bit of warmth easily melts it.

So how do you oil pull? You empty the contents of the Minty Coco tube into your mouth and swish it around your mouth like you would with mouthwash. I would advise that you do it slowly and gently because you have to do it for 15 minutes. You don’t want to end up with a stiff achy jaw. Also, be sure to spit the oil into some tissue and throw it in the bin as it will block your drains if you spit it down the sink.

The first time I used the oil was very weird and strange! The sensation of the oil in my mouth was bewildering but I got used to it. It did feel a bit gross at first and made my tongue feel icky. I am not a fan of even eating oily food as it makes me feel sick but the mint flavouring really helped me to keep the oil in my mouth for 15 minutes. At first your jaw does get really tired as 15 minutes is quite a long time but over time, it gets easier. I find that doing it whilst in the shower makes it easy to forget that I have oil in my mouth.

I preferred oil pulling at night as I had the 15 minutes to spare and I enjoyed going to bed with an extra minty fresh mouth.

Since using this product (7 days) I have to say that my teeth have actually become slightly brighter and I have faith that with continuous use, they will be noticeably white. According to my boyfriend, I have been waking up with pleasant morning breath so that is definitely a plus (haha). I also tend to suffer from sensitive teeth whenever I eat something sweet. My dentist has said that my teeth do not product enough fluoride. Since I have been oil pulling, I have not had a sensitivity issue so I can enjoy eating chocolate again.

Some people will say that ¬£20 is very expensive for this kit but I actually think it’s worth it. I know a few people who spend hundreds on salon whitening so I would definitely recommend this kit plus it is natural so not harmful to your teeth at all. This kit is also cheaper than others that I have seen.

A lot of reviews that I have read about oil pulling talk about taking a tablespoon of oil and putting that in your mouth but as I previously mentioned, I hate the taste of oil so having a flavoured oil is perfect for me!

Nails Inc Nail Polish Assorted Random Colours – sold by Innox Trading

I am a nail polish fanatic and I particularly love Nails Inc as a nail polish brand so I was extremely excited to buy and try this random selection of colours especially at such a great price of £14.99. Nails Inc normally retails for around £11 so getting 5 at this price is practically a steal!

All five polishes arrived in pristine condition as they were individually wrapped in bubble wrap to protect them.
IMG_6783
The colours I was sent were from the Nails Inc London Collection and they were: Hampstead ‚Äď an orange beaded polish, Sheraton Street ‚Äď a beautiful pale blue/teal, Warwick Way ‚Äď a dark green on the boarder of blue, Mayfair ‚Äď a lovely pearl white from the Ballet sheers range, and The Serpentine ‚Äď a navy blue.

IMG_6851

I would have loved to have received a red or pink in this range as I was sent quite a few blues. However, I really liked the range of colours that I received that I immediately swatched them to see which one I wanted to wear. They all went on really well and smoothly and had quick drying times. They only needed one coat of polish in order to get a nice coverage but Hampstead and Mayfair definitely need two coats in order to get the full effect.

These polishes are long lasting and didn’t chip until day 6 which was great for me as I am a busy mum who doesn’t have time to redo my nails every other day.

Overall, I would highly recommend these nail polishes as they are from a trusted brand, good quality and great value for money!

Pixnor P2016 Portable 7-in-1 Facial Brush Cleansing System Massager Face Cleanser Brush with 7 Brush Heads – Sold by Pixnor

I have been eyeing the expensive facial cleansing brushes but have been too scared to splash the cash in case I wasn’t happy with the product.

This Pixnor Portable Facial Brush comes with seven different heads, fully comprehensive instructions and is powered by two AA batteries(which were not included). It is light weight and fits nicely into your hand. It includes 7 brush attachments (Short brush, long fine brush, latex soft sponge, makeup sponge, rolling massager, crude polish accessory and pumice applicator) for different purposes and has two speeds which both aren’t too harsh for your face. It is easy to set up to use and change the brush heads. It is travel friendly and fits nicely in a toiletry bag.
IMG_6649
The brushes are great for everyday use and specific brushes cater to the various problems areas of your skin. For example the exfoliating brush is perfect for deep cleaning and removing dead skin. The one negative is that you cannot get the brush wet otherwise it will stop working. It is not for use under running water, therefore it has limited usage.
IMG_6650
If you are not sure on whether to buy one of the branded brushes, I would recommend that you get a Pixnor brush as it does the same thing and you get the added bonus of extra brushes as well.

Planet Camping – Glamping Wishlist…..

Whilst at secondary school (many years ago *sigh*), I was a keen athletic teenager who loved doing all sorts of activities from Netball to Football to Athletics. So it’s really no surprise that I signed up to do the Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE).
DofE-Logo-2008.gif

DofE is youth awards programme founded in the United Kingdom in 1956 by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh that has since expanded to 140 other countries. The programmes are at three progressive levels which, if successfully completed, lead to a Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. The physical side of the award involves orienteering in a group to find camp.

Looking back, I wish I knew about Planet Camping (http://www.planetcamping.co.uk/). Planet Camping is a great website which sells products to meet all of your camping needs. Whether you’re having a mini camping party in your back garden or going to a festival, Planet Camping have you covered.

If I were to do another DofE expedition (in style), here is what my wishlist from Plant Camping would be:

  1. VW Camper Van Tent (http://www.planetcamping.co.uk/vw-camper-van-tents.html)

How cool is this bad boy? Knowing that I could look forward to putting this awesome tent up once I’ve found camp would spur me on and give me all the encouragement I need. This would be the ultimate way to celebrate finding camp.
  2. Lazy Patch Adult Duvet Suit (http://www.planetcamping.co.uk/adult-duvet-suit.html)
    Pale Blue Suit
As fate would have it, it is always cold whenever you go to do DofE. The day before could be a heatwave but guaranteed, it will be zero degrees on DofE day! Having an adult duvet suit which is  designed to make you feel like you never got out of bed in the first place would feel like HEAVEN!!
  3. Selk Bag Lite Sleep suit (http://www.planetcamping.co.uk/musucbag-lite.html)             SelkBag Lite Blue
Considering you have to carry EVERYTHING on your back whilst trying to find camp, it is very important to pack as light as possible. Does that mean you have to compromise your comfort? Well not with this starfish sleeping bag. It is super lightweight, has an insulated hood and Velcro hand release system. When you wake up, you literally can just get up without dreading the cold! Matter of fact, forget camping, I would want one of these for home. It would make the ultimate onesie!
  4. Camping Cook Set Bundle (http://www.planetcamping.co.uk/camping-cook-set-bundle.html)                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Gelert Cookset BundleOne of the hardest things about DofE for me was leaving my kitchen. How would I survive without a variety of decent pots? Needless to say, I just about survived on noodles! However with this set, I would have been more than ok! The set includes an Aluminium 4 Cooking Pan Set,  a Foldaway Kettle and a Bamboo Picnic Set for 4 people.
  5. LED Torch with Bottle Opener (http://www.planetcamping.co.uk/led-torch-with-bottle-opener.html) ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†When it comes to camping, I think it’s important to find as many multi-use products as possible. This torch would definitely meet my needs. Since I am now 25, I’m sure I would need a good drink to wind down my evening at the campsite. Whilst providing me with some light to find my bottle of alcohol, I could then use it to open it…..Fab!

I hope you have found this wishlist useful if you are planning to go camping or to a festival any time soon.

Be sure to check out Planet Camping at http://www.planetcamping.co.uk/ They have a great variety of products and quite a few items are on sale, so get them whilst you can!
